This magical botanical pendant was made using a leaf of real moss green Bracken fern (Pteridium aquilinum or Raithneach mhór as Gaeilge) gathered on my wanders in my favourite Irish woodland. The leaves were brought home and carefully dried before being encased in resin to create an enchanting keepsake from the forests of Ireland to treasure forever. Fern, or just 'Bracken' as we call it in Ireland was always seen as an odd and magical plant here, having the reputation of being a fairy plant.
One tradition holds that if you collect the seeds of Bracken at midnight on Samhain or Halloween eve they will make you invisible, allowing you to get up to any amount of mischief! Another myth holds that the seeds bring good luck when carried wrapped in a piece of white paper. Bracken is also found in the old Irish Brehon laws as one of the 'bushes of the woods', and as such was protected from illegal cutting, it is also found in Ogham alphabet (in which each letter represents a tree or plant) as the letter Getal.
The findings for this necklace are available as either nickel free bronze or sterling silver and the chain measures 18 inches.
Your necklace will arrive safely packaged in one of my beautiful signature gift boxes, ready for gift-giving and with no need for further wrapping, the perfect gift for any nature-lover.
Please be aware that there may be some very small bubbles in your necklace. Someone recently described them as resembling little dew drops sitting on the flowers & leaves and I like to think they add their own little touch of life to each piece <3
Please keep your piece dry and store it away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures. To clean use warm, soapy water. If you would like to polish your piece, use a plastic polish like Novus or renaissance wax and a microfibre cloth, polishing in a circular motion.
